Difference between BS4 and BS6 vehicle in terms of everyday benefits and drawbacks.

In terms of fuel consumption and Emission Control

BS6 vehicle is having generally less fuel consumption and high millage, Where BS4 vehicle is having more fuel consumption and less millage.

The fuel for BS6 engines is typically more refined and slightly more expensive, While the fuel is slightly cheaper for BS4 vehicle it means for very long distance somehow BS4 vehicle is cheaper than BS6 vehicle.

BS6 norms require advanced emission control technologies for example: – Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) which often lead to improved fuel consumption as a result of better combustion processes while BS4 norms are less strict, leading to higher fuel consumption and more emissions.

In terms of Technology and Maintenance

BS4 vehicle have simple exhaust system so the maintenance cost of BS4 vehicle is less a compare to BS6 vehicle.

The layers of BS4 vehicle exhaust system is less as compare to BS6 vehicle- likewise Exhaust Manifold, Catalytic Converter, Exhaust Pipe and Muffler whereas in BS6 vehicle exhaust system is Exhaust Manifold, Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Lean NOx Trap (LNT), Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Exhaust Pipe and Muffler.

In BS6 engine Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) is reduce approximate 70% as compare to BS4 engine with advance technology use in BS6 engine. Particulate Matter (PM) reduce approximate 80% in diesel engine because of Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF). The limit of Hydrocarbons (HC) in diesel engine is 0.3g/km it reduces till 0.17 g/km in BS6 engine due to improvement in catalytic converters and optimized fuel injection systems. Carbon Monoxide (CO) limits in diesel engine is 0.5g/km and it reduces by 0.09g/km in BS6 engine with Advanced Three-Way Catalytic Converters (TWC) and improved engine tuning.

Additional Adblue system used in BS6 vehicle which is not in BS4 vehicle. Adblue system like- Adblue tank, Adblue injectors and catalyst.

 In term of Cost  

The cost of BS6 vehicle is more than BS4 vehicle because of uses advance technology and feature. BS6 engines may require higher-quality oils and filters, increasing routine service costs.

BS6 vehicles tend to have slightly higher service costs as compare to BS4 vehicle due to the advanced technologies they use for emission control, high fuel efficiency and advance feature.

 BS4 vehicle having lower Initial purchasing cost as compare to BS6 vehicle. BS6 vehicles come with a higher initial purchase price and maintenance cost, they offer better fuel efficiency and lower emissions, which can lead to savings in fuel costs and potentially higher resale values.
