Skoda Auto
Skoda auto (Czech pronunciation: [ˈʃkoda]), commonly called Skoda, is a Czech automobile manufacturer founded in 1895 as Laurin & Klement and headquartered in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic.
In 1925 Laurin & Klement was acquired by the industrial conglomerate Skoda works, which itself became state owned in 1948. After 1991 it was gradually privatized and in 2000 Skoda became a wholly owned subsidiary of the German Volkswagen Group.
Skoda Works was started as a firearms maker in 1859. Skoda Auto goes back to the early 1890s as a company which started out making bicycles
Electrification strategy :
In 2015, new Skoda chairman Bernhard Maier stated that the Volkswagen Group “is working on a modular, new electric platform and we are in the team”, and that “there is no alternative to electrification.” New Skoda corporate “Strategy 2025”, which replaces the previous “Strategy 2018”, aims to start production of a fully electric vehicle in 2020, and five electric models across different segments by 2025.
Some interesting facts about Skoda:
- Laurin & Klement were originally bike manufacturers :
In the December of 1895, mechanic Laurin had a bike that needed fixing. Then he visited a bike shop in Czechoslovakia and he was extremely disappointed with the service when the staff were rude and refused to fix the bike. Laurin and Klement learnt how to make bikes in order to provide a service that they were looking for. They became good in creating bikes and many push bikes were sold, so they decided to take the next step and add motors
- Skoda won their class in the RAC Rally for 17 years in a row, using the 130LR Estelle, which was powered by a 130bhp, 1289cc engine.
- Back in the ’70s, Skoda had plenty of success racing the groovy looking 110R and 130R models. Especially in Eastern Europe the cars are still campaigned by racer’s.
Skoda logo mean:
Much like their slogan, Skoda’s logo is also ‘Simply Clever’. Skoda uses the logo of the winged arrow with three feathers. The arrow is for speed and the wings for progress, while the circle symbolises Skoda’s more than 100 years of tradition.
